Teatro ICTUS is one of the oldest independent theater companies in Chile and Latin America, existing as such since 1955 when a group of students from the School of Theater of the Catholic University (TEUC), questioned the traditional Chilean theatrical model, decided to leave the academy and establish their own ways of doing theater.
To think of ICTUS is not only to think of almost 70 years of history, but also to reflect on the history of national theater, crossed by the social and political history of Chile. La Comedia, home of ICTUS since 1962, hosted the most important theatrical artists of the country, at the same time that it meant a socially relevant space during the darkest years of Chile. In spite of the difficult economic and social situations that for many periods afflicted the group, La Comedia never stopped making theater, and remains active to this day.
Today, ICTUS maintains that history, but projects and affirms the memories as an active exercise in constant movement, affirming as fundamental to permeate audiences with these fragments of dynamic memories, while inviting projection into the future.

The play, based on Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, returns to the stage during the Teatro a Mil International Festival 2025. This bitter comedy presents a group of people who can no longer stand the tedium and boredom of doing nothing, they are on the verge of killing each other, or themselves.
While the characters decide to look for UFOs in the sky, the world falls apart, and they develop, joke after joke, an intrigue that seems minimal, but which serves to discover the deep discomfort of each character and, first of all, the most bucolic of everyone: Uncle Vanya.
The work displays one of Chekhov's most splendid virtues: dramatic irony, the bitter ending, neither happy nor tragic, which this version by Leyla Selman tries to elevate a little more, as if it were not enough.
